Electronics & Communication Engineering
The Department of ECE is a major thrust area. The Department is headed by G.Raghothaman, the person with a Masters degree in electronics from Madras University and with thirty years of Research experience in the emerging fields together with academic experience of 9 years under VTU. The teaching faculty presently covers first and second year requirements with very good qualifications. The laboratories are fully equipped to the needs of the student. Guidance is available at all stages to bring out the best in the students in terms of academics or any other projects related to electronics. The orientation is presently in line with VTU requirements for the award of Bachelor's degree in ECE. We intend to cover the Master's degree programme at a later date.
Analog Electronics Circuits Lab
This laboratory is intended to practical aspects of analog electronic circuits.
This covers the basic aspects of diodes, transistors, transformers in the
operation of rectifiers, signal processing, amplifiers, feedback networks,
audio power amplifiers, oscillators and network theory aspects. Breadboards are
provided with discrete components to implement the circuits. The electrical
signals are injected from stable sources and measurements are carried out
using analog/digital oscilloscopes , multimeters and other measuring devices.
The simulation of electrical circuits is carried using multisim software for
in depth analysis.
Logic design Lab
In this laboratory students are provided with logic kits , oscilloscopes and display
devices to enable the students to conduct experiments in connection with combinational
and sequential logic circuits using asynchronous/ synchronous hardware logic building
blocks like gates, flip-flops,counters, multiplexers, encoders and decoders. This
laboratory gives insight into the more advanced concepts of realization of complex
logics in VLSI.
In this laboratory the building block of realizing the electronic system using
Microcontroller (8051 and MSP430) is taught with KEIL software and necessary
hardware units . The programming concepts are based on assembly level and C to
implement the Boolean functions, data transfer, arithmetic and logic operations
, operations using memory and interface concepts. The hardware units provide the
application of these programming skills to implement a variety of interface
requirements like analog to digital conversion and vice versa, data display
and control, waveform generation and control of external devices. The teaching
through intense practical classes enable the students to become a very good
engineer in this field that will enable them to take forward their career.
This laboratory is equipped with HDL kits and software for learning the art of
realizing the complex logic circuits in FPGA using Spartan series. The programming
concepts include both VHDL and Verilog implementation of most of the logic
circuits learnt till then. The realization span to the area of devicing suitable
hardware for implementation of ALU for a microprocessor. The HDL implementation for
control applications and as a simulator for signals is also included. This
laboratory helps to implement complex logic functions and signal processing
blocks in hardware for use in hardware domain of any electronic equipment.
